Premium DNS Help
Any domain names you wish to use on DNS.com must be pointed to the following nameservers from your domain name registrar: ns1.dns.com, ns2.dns.com, ns3.dns.com, ns4.dns.com
- Login to your account.
- In the Enter Domain Name box, type the domain you would like to add.
- To save you setup time, we can automatically import your existing DNS settings. Keep the "Import Existing DNS Settings" checkbox selected to auto-populate, or uncheck to start from scratch.
- You can preview your current DNS settings before adding your domain simply by clicking the Preview button. Click Continue when you are ready to add the domain to DNS.com.
- Hit "Submit" to add the domain to the system.
- Your domain names should now be listed under the Domains tab in the menu.
- After configuring your domains, make sure you update your nameservers records to point to our nameservers:
ns1.dns.com
ns2.dns.com
ns3.dns.com
ns4.dns.com
Groups let you apply pre-configured settings to a set of domain names.
- Login to your account.
- Click on the "Groups" link in the top menu.
- Click on the "Create group" link in the left column.
- You will be asked to give your new group a name. Input the name of your group and then click "Save."
- Now that you have created a new group, assign the region settings that will be applied to the group. Remember, any domain name that you assign to this group will inherit these settings.
The domain details panel gives you the ability to select the geo location, type of record, and resolving IP address. Repeat as many times as necessary for as many regions as you wish to specify.
CNAME records, or "canonical name" records, allow you to have an unlimited number of aliases for a domain. An example of when you may want to use a CNAME is if you want a subdomain pointed to a machine outside of your domain. This is useful so that if the IP address of the alias changes, you would not be required to update the resource record.
- Login to your account.
- Click on any domain from the "Select domain" drop down menu.
- Select the "root" host name and enter an answer in the form on the left column. Click "Save."
- Next, select the host name "www" and create a CNAME resource record that points back to your root zone.
- Create resource records for each country you wish to set traffic rules.
- Create a global record for other locations in the world by either not setting a location, or select the country group "Everything Else."
We understand how important it is that your domains stay online. If you exceed your allotment of queries, you can easily upgrade to the next largest service level. You only pay the different between your current service level and the new level. You can also purchase DNS overage insurance (below) from within your account.
Eliminate the worry of unplanned DNS overages through our overage insurance program. This is a flexible feature which provides instant DNS query capacity on demand in the event of a temporary increase in traffic, allowing your domains to exceed the monthly limit of queries without incurring overage fees.
If you go over your allotted monthly DNS queries and you have purchased one of our insurance packages, your insurance package will automatically kick in, thus saving you from any overages that you might incur. Now you can be prepared for rapid growth and spikes in website traffic without buying a package that is too big.
These queries are good for the lifetime of your account and may be used whenever you exceed your DNS query limit.
